LaLiga News: Bellerin: Xavi’s Barcelona need time to bring trophy to Camp Nou

Hector Bellerin believes Xavi and Barcelona need time to create something special as the defender looks to be part of a new era of success.

Barça have shown their ambitions in the transfer market ahead of Xavi’s first full season as head coach. Robert Lewandowski, Rafinha and Jules Kundet are among the new arrivals at Camp Nou.

Bellerin was among the recruits who arrived at the club, where he began his career on a one-year contract.

Barcelona failed to reach the Champions League round of 16 but are just one point behind leaders Real Madrid in the La Liga table with 10 wins in 12 games.

Defender Bellerin has suggested that Xavi, who replaced the sacked Ronald Koeman last November, could need as much time as was given to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

He told Catalunya Radio: “Football is neither black nor white. There are many contributing factors that can affect this.

“There are many signatures. These projects take time to bear fruit. Klopp and Guardiola won nothing in their first season. Things take time.”

Bellerin has been ruled out with an injury since joining the Blue Garnet, but he won a 4-2 Champions League victory over Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday and is looking to continue.

The 27-year-old said: “I am very happy to be here. This is the dream I’ve always had. It was the first full 90 minutes of the entire season.”

Former Arsenal player Bellerin would welcome the opportunity to stay with the Catalan giants after the end of the season.

He said, “At the moment I have a one-year contract. I would like to extend, but it depends on both sides.”
