Hoping to expand its playoff-chasing buffer early Thursday morning, Houston will travel to struggling Montreal.
Starting with the hosts, while Montreal can still target a top-nine finish this season, Hernán Losada’s side are in the midst of a veritable MLS nightmare. They were last seen putting on another alarming display at the weekend when they suffered a routine 3-0 defeat at the hands of Orlando. Impact have not won any of their last six matches in a row. Showcasing a number of problems on both sides of the September international break, Montreal could face another tough test here. Given their recent struggles, highlighted by a 4-1 defeat to Atlanta last month, the midweek hosts have also managed just one goal in their previous four MLS matches. While under intense scrutiny, Losada will also be concerned about his team’s extensive problems on home soil. Including a blowout 4-2 loss to Columbus on Sept. 3, Montreal have only won a pair of MLS wins in front of their fans since mid-June.
As for the visitors, while Houston may have been upset over the weekend as they ultimately had to settle for a 0-0 draw at home against Dallas, Dynamo should still find the spirit in their camp high. While in pole position to secure a spot in the play-offs this season, Ben Olsen’s side have suffered just one defeat in each of their previous 10 matches across all formats, a streak that dates back to August 8th. Heading into the September international break with an impressive 2-0 win over Columbus, El Naranja will sense a chance to make a statement early Thursday morning. With a three-point cushion from relegation from the top seven, Houston will be hoping to get its first win in Montreal.
