Liverpool have no excuses for below-par display as Alisson demands improvement

Alisson warned that Liverpool could not justify their below-par performance against Leicester City as they aimed to improve at Brentford.

Two botched own goals from Wout Faes gave the Reds a 2-1 victory over the Foxes at Anfield on Friday – their fourth successive Premier League win.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s side were criticized for their performance as they fell short of an early goal from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and looked defensively vulnerable.

Liverpool have an opportunity ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham when they visit Brentford Community Stadium on Monday and goalkeeper Alisson knows they need to do better.

“The only thing we could take away from Friday was the win and the effort we put in on the pitch,” the Brazil international told LFC TV.

“But there is a lot of room for improvement. Looking at performance, we should perform much better if the ambition is to continue to achieve the goals we have in front of us.

“We have high expectations and the fans have high hopes for us.

Liverpool are a huge club that will always fight for titles and always be at the top. We have to do more, but we know it.

“We cannot rely on excuses. It was only the second game we played after the World Cup. Players who had free time used it to prepare. Those who went to the World Cup could train and then rest to prepare for that moment.

“Now will be a very important moment in the season, and we have to focus. We must work better.

“Sometimes it’s just a matter of mentality. It’s not easy to change it, but we can definitely do it.”

Liverpool have scored three or more goals in each of their last five encounters with the Bees.

The Reds have only scored three goals or more in six consecutive games against the same opposition once, against Fulham between 1986 and 2000.
