As players from Italy and England prepared to take the field to fight for the crown of Europe on Sunday night, a different type of battle, one of the most undesirable, was taking place in and around Wembley Stadium. The heavily outnumbered and poorly equipped stewards failed to stop a crowd of people calling themselves “supporters” from breaking in without tickets or security checks.
UEFA has already fined England for a laser pen pointed at Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel’s face in the semi-final, and they are expected to hear more from European football’s governing body for it.
Aside from that, the chances of England being chosen to host the 2030 World Cup have significantly diminished.
