Alphonso Davies may face the agonizing wait of whether he can compete at the World Championships after an apparent hamstring injury.
Bayern Munich defender Davies, who along with Lille striker Jonathan David is one of Canada’s top players heading to Qatar, was forced off the pitch 64 minutes into Saturday’s Bundesliga match against Hertha Berlin.
The 22-year-old was holding his right hamstring as he carefully walked off the field to be replaced by Lucas Hernandez.
Canada, which will co-host in 2026, has qualified for its second World Cup, having last competed in the tournament in 1986. They drew in Group F along with Belgium, Morocco and Croatia.
Double change – I hope it’s nothing serious, Fonzie.
