Manuel Neuer will miss the rest of the season with Bayern Munich after breaking his leg while on holiday.
The FC Bayern and Germany goalkeeper suffered a broken tibia while skiing on holiday after his national team was eliminated from the World Cup in Qatar in the group stage.
On Friday, Neuer revealed he had undergone surgery, updating a social media post for supporters to confirm that he would be out until the end of the campaign.
The injury will be a big blow for Bayern, who have reached the knockout stages of the Champions League and are top of the Bundesliga standings.
In a post on his Instagram feed on Saturday, Neuer said: “What can I say, the end of the year could definitely have gone better.
“When I was trying to clear my head while skiing, I got a broken tibia.
“Yesterday’s surgery went well. Many thanks to the doctors!
“However, it pains me to realize that the current season is over for me.”
