According to the midfielder’s agent, Arthur will not return to Juventus in January and could stay at Liverpool after the season is over.

Brazil international Artur has played just 13 minutes for Liverpool since joining Juventus on loan in September with a muscle injury that required surgery.

The 26-year-old is expected to be back by the end of December, but recent reports say he could return to his parent club next month.

However, Federico Pastorello’s agent denied these claims and suggested there was a chance Arthur would stay at Anfield for a long time if his future at Juventus was not decided.

“He will stay at Liverpool in January, that’s 100 per cent,” Pastorello told Tuttomercatoweb. “This is an aspect that has never been discussed.

“I don’t know who started these rumors about returning to Turin, but it’s absolutely not true. The contract does not provide and is not possible.

“No one questioned his stay – neither Liverpool nor Juventus. As for the next season, we’ll see when the current one ends.

“If [Massimiliano] Allegri remains at Juventus, a solution will have to be found. If Liverpool want to extend the loan or make an offer, I think they will find fertile ground.”

Liverpool are eligible to buy Arthur, who previously spent two years at Barcelona before joining Juventus in June 2020. This option entails a £32.3m (€37.5m) fee to be paid at the end of the season.

Gremio’s academy product came as a surprise to Liverpool on the last day of the last transfer window, and Pastorello has revealed how the move came about.

“The operation was born out of the stubbornness to look for something,” Pastorello said. Liverpool had previously given tokens of approval, but they had no place. [in the squad]”.

He said that Liverpool made an approach when Jordan Henderson was injured.

“It was the penultimate day of the transfer market. Liverpool called us and said they wanted to close the deal, and from that moment we got down to business, ”added the agent. “We left for Liverpool on the last transfer day for dates and signings.”

Arthur is one of 12 midfielders to have played for Liverpool this season, but they remain linked with the likes of Sofian Amrabat, Enzo Fernandes and Jude Bellingham.

Jurgen Klopp’s side return to competitive action on Thursday after the World Cup break with a trip to Manchester City for the EFL Cup round of 16.
