Zaniolo expresses frustration over Roma’s profit-oriented treatment towards him

Nicolo Zaniolo criticized Roma for “broken promises” and treating him as a “capital gain” after he moved to Galatasaray last month.

Zaniolo left the giants of the Eternal City to join the leaders of the Turkish Super League for a fee of 16.5 million euros in early February.

The Italy midfielder was due to leave during the January transfer window but has turned down a move to Bournemouth from the Premier League.

Zaniolo signed a four-year deal with Galatasaray after being made a fool of at Roma, with the 23-year-old pointing the finger at his former club over the way he was treated.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport: “I could talk for hours about broken promises. They (Roma) told me that I was at the forefront, instead I was always considered just a capital gain.

“For two years I was told that the new contract is ready. In January of last year I would have signed a contract for a little more than I was earning, because in Rome I was doing well and I knew that there were problems with the financial Fair Play. After a long conversation, I’m bored. If I need to think about my goodbye, I think others should do it too.”

Zaniolo was offended when he was called a traitor.

He added, “I am very sorry about this. Roma gave me everything, thanks to Roma I won and made my debut for the national team, my son was born there. Being named that way was a big blow.”

Zaniolo continued: “The truth will come out. I’m just saying that I’ve always trained, even if not with others.”

Much has been said about the alleged row between Zaniolo and José Mourinho, but the playmaker has no problem with the Roma head coach.

“He’s a great coach and a great person,” Zaniolo said of his former boss. “He made me play almost always. Of course, he is used to managing star players, and I am not. I wish I had it in four or five years, but it still gave me so much.”
