Xisco Munoz sets sights on transforming the Owls’ luck, prioritizing the future

Sheffield Wednesday manager Xisco Munoz said he is focused on the future despite his side remaining winless this campaign after a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough.

Darragh Lenihan’s second-half goal for Boro canceled out Anthony Musaba’s opener.

In South Yorkshire it was 23rd to 24th and that is where the sides remain; both are now winless in their first seven Sky Bet Championship matches this season.

Muñoz said: “One of the problems we had in the last game was that we couldn’t find a solution, but today we did. We showed a good game in the first half.

“We tried to change things in the second half and build on the positives. We can’t change everything in a few days. It is important for me to try and show the best results, like in the first half.

“We’re trying to find a balance. The first half went at a good level, but in the Championship you cannot control all 90 minutes. In the second half the game became completely different.

“I think the fans liked the first half. You could hear it and that’s what I want. We need to have fun when we play at home. I understand if some people don’t like my style.

“I’m focused on the future. I know I can improve on this team, and most importantly, I believe in these guys.”

Middlesbrough head coach Michael Carrick said he was proud of the way his players returned to the game after the break.

Carrick said: “It was a game of two halves. I think in the first half we doubted our assumptions and we lacked that belief and confidence.

“We wanted to get three points, but sometimes it can turn into desperation and be dangerous. It can make things tense and I think we were a little tense in the first half, we almost overdid it.

“We showed what we can do in the second half and that really inspired the players and I’m proud of them. Falling behind at halftime is difficult.

“Being behind gave us a boost; it gave us the freedom of expression to pursue the game. In terms of reaction, character and personality, I never doubted them.

“We had some good chances in the second half. We did a lot of good things, especially on the sides, we just didn’t quite get the back end right.

“Of course we expected to get more points than we have, but I really enjoy working with this group of players. The guys are upset, we wanted to come here and win, but it didn’t happen.”
