Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has given up on the idea of traveling to England to attend his team’s match against Liverpool scheduled for Tuesday evening in the first leg of the Champions League 16 final.
According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Pérez changed his agenda after the news of the death of Amancio Amaro, honorary president of Real Madrid.
She added: “It has also been decided that Real Madrid’s director of institutional relations, Emilio Butragueño, who traveled to England yesterday, will return to preside over the farewell ceremony for Amancio.”
The newspaper indicated that a luncheon between the Real Madrid and Liverpool administrations was canceled due to the event.
Real Madrid announced on Tuesday morning the death of its honorary president and one of the club’s legends, Amancio Amaro, at the age of 83.
