Today, Monday, May 22, FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced decisive decisions to support Vinicius Junior, the Real Madrid star.
Vinicius Junior suffered multiple harassment after taking part in Real Madrid’s match against Valencia on Sunday, which brought them together in the La Liga competition.
Where Valencia fans yelled racist slurs at the player over the phone, causing the match to be stopped for several minutes after the two sides clashed.
Statement by the President of FIFA in support of Vinicius
Infantino said in a press statement that he released via his personal Instagram social media account: “We are in full solidarity with Vinicius Junior and racism has no place in football or in society and he confirms the support of the International Federation of Football Associations for all players who are faced with such situations.
And Infantino, President of the International Federation of Football Associations, explained that there are 3 steps that have been clarified in competitions organized by FIFA in case of exposure to racist slurs.
And he continued his speech by saying: “First, the match must be stopped, second step, the players leave the stadium and the announcer announces that if the racist chants continue, the match will be suspended, the game will resume, then in the third step, if the attacks continue, the match will be annulled and the opponent will receive 3 points.”
It is worth noting that after Real Madrid’s match with Valencia, there were several violent clashes between the players, ending with Vinicius Junior being sent off in stoppage time in yesterday’s match after an altercation with striker Hugo Duro.
