Ronald Araujo has been ruled out of Uruguay’s squad for two upcoming friendlies due to a hip injury sustained during Barcelona’s victory over Real Madrid on Sunday.
The defender was able to complete a dramatic 2-1 El Clasico victory for the Blue Garnets at the Camp Nou, but he won’t face Japan on Friday or South Korea next Tuesday.
Barça said that Araujo underwent an examination on Monday and found that he had injured his left adductor muscle.
The 24-year-old scored an own goal to give Madrid the lead, but Sergi Roberto equalized shortly before half-time and the late winner Frank Kessy took Xavi’s team 12 points clear of their fierce rivals at the top of La Liga.
Uruguay will also be left without attacking midfielder Georgiana de Arrascaet.
Diego Hernandez and Sebastian Cáceres were called in as replacements by interim coach Marcelo Broli.
