Competition: Champions League Qualifiers
Market: Shakhtar Donetsk wins
Chance: 13/10 @ 888sport
Two teams looking to gain an early lead on Tuesday night, Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk will make the trip to the Luminus Arena when they face Genk.
Starting with the hosts, while many in the Genk field may be thrilled by their first Champions League match midweek, John van den Brom’s side are in the midst of a fight. Unable to find their footsteps after racking up a national silver medal last season, the Blues were last seen over the weekend sporting another troubling performance. Involved in what turned out to be a true home thriller against KV Oostende, fans of the Luminus Arena watched their team eventually be hit with a shocking 4-3 defeat. Collecting just one point from their first two Belgian first division games, Genk know they will face another tough test on their home turf this week. Still showing the after-effects of a 3-2 defeat to Club Brugge in last month’s Super Cup, the hosts on Tuesday have only won one of their eight previous games.
As for the visitors, while Genk may be a team that are really looking for a boost of some kind, Shakhtar Donetsk impressed with the opening of the new campaign. Last seen over the weekend, when he put on another eye-catching performance in Lviv, head coach Roberto De Zerbi saw his team land in a well-deserved 3-0 away match and was quick to praise the his team. On the strength of the opening victory against Inhulets on 24 July, the former Sassuolo coach saw his team get off to a great start. Shocking many with their Champions League performances last season, Shakhtar managed to take points away from both Inter and Real Madrid. Feeling what should be an opportunity to gain a head start in a foreign land this week, we are claiming an away win here.
