According to a recent report by Fabrizio Romano, Granit Xhaka’s transfer from Arsenal to Roma this summer would have failed.
Arsenal will instead announce a new contract extension for the Swiss star who, in the eyes of many, had a really strong tournament at Euro 2020 that saw him help guide Switzerland towards the last stages of the round of 16.
They failed to go through with it, but what they did was earn the respect of the football world, with Xhaka at the forefront.
He doesn’t always show up when it matters most to the Gunners, but whenever he does, there are few better midfielders in the Premier League.
Arsenal understand this quite clearly and are willing to take the plunge by offering him an exciting new deal, but it won’t mean much if they don’t step up their game this season.
