Transfers News: Pau Torres refused the Spurs move

Pau Torres confirmed he had a chance to leave Villarreal and move to Tottenham Hotspur, but declined.

As quoted by Sky Sport, the 24-year-old defender said he was informed of the Premier League team’s interest but decided to stay and believes it was the right choice for him to stay with his childhood club, looking forward to a another season in the Spanish top flight.

Torres has climbed the ranks of the Villarreal academy and, apart from the 2018-19 season spent on loan at Malaga, has been at the club for his entire career so far. In all competitions he made 88 appearances for the Yellow Submarine, scoring five goals and assisting four. He also has 14 appearances for Spain to his name.

The Spurs have signed Cristian Romero on loan from Atalanta to strengthen their central defender ranks, but have separated from Toby Alderweireld. They were also reportedly interested in Tahekiro Tomiyasu, but the Japanese international ended up joining their archrival Arsenal at the end of the transfer window.
