Nottingham Forest have completed all work relating to the signing of Gustavo Scarpa as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Palmeiras at the end of the calendar year, according to Fabrizio Romano. They are expected to officially announce him as their 24th addition to the squad for the season next week.
The 28-year-old Brazilian is a versatile midfielder, preferring to play in a central attacking role just behind a striker, but is also perfectly capable of playing box-to-box on either flank.
After rising through Fluminense’s youth academy and spending four years as a first-team player, Scarpa joined Palmeiras in January 2018 on an initial loan deal and the move was made permanent the following summer on a free transfer. Since then, he has scored 37 goals and produced 51 assists in 211 games in all competitions for the Brazilian champions.
Scarpa’s only international appearance came in 2017, when Brazil coach Tite included him for 21 minutes in a 1-0 friendly win against Colombia.
