Jack Wilshere will no longer play for Arsenal at this point, according to manager Mikel Arteta.
The 29-year-old midfielder, who made 198 appearances in all competitions with the Gunners between 2008 and 2018, is currently without a club following the expiration of his short-term contract with Bournemouth this summer. He was recently invited to train with Italy’s Como side, but were reportedly unable to offer him a contract due to their squad full to the brim.
Arteta recently spoke on the subject and said doors will always be open for Wilshere, but speaking to the press ahead of his away side’s Premier League game in Burnley on Saturday, the Spaniard clarified the club’s position. He confirmed that the former England international is ready to train with his team, but no contract offers are on the way at this point.
The manager said the club was willing to help the midfielder get back on his feet, but Wilshere was informed of their position.
