AC Milan appear to have hit a significant hurdle in their efforts to sign Rafael Leao to a new contract. As reported by Brandthe Rossoneri have put an offer of 5 million per season on the striker’s table, but he is holding out for 7 million.
Milan are believed to have paid just under €30m to sign Leao from LOSC Lille in 2019. Since then, the Portuguese international has developed into a very powerful forward, scoring 34 goals and producing 30 assists in 135 matches in all competitions for the seven-time European champions. The 23-year-old plays mostly on the left but can do a good job anywhere across the full spectrum of offensive positions.
Real Madrid, Barcelona and Chelsea have all been credited with strong interest in Leao, whose current contract expires at the end of 2024. Speaking to Record, his father Antonio even mentioned these three clubs when speaking about the future.
Leao at the moment seems to prefer to stay at Milan. He feels happy there and acknowledges all they have done to help him get to where he is. But if there isn’t a breakthrough in contract talks in the coming months, even more potential suitors will likely be knocking on the door.
