To Cancel Something, One Must Take Responsibility : Nagelsmann Departs from Chelsea

Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed reports that he is not a candidate for the new Chelsea manager.

Nagelsmann was unexpectedly sacked by Bayern Munich last month when Thomas Tuchel replaced him as the Bavarian giants struggle to fend off a challenge from Borussia Dortmund for their Bundesliga title.

Having built up a following during successful spells with Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig before leading Bayern to the Bundesliga title last season, Nagelsmann was immediately presented as a potential permanent successor to Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge.

Nagelsmann was reportedly in talks with Chelsea to take over at the end of the campaign, but widespread reports on Friday suggest he has pulled out of the election.

Asked about these reports by Sky Sports in Germany, Nagelsmann said: “To cancel something, you have to take something on yourself.”

Chelsea sit 11th in the Premier League table after failing to win in any of the last five games of the competition, with their most recent league win coming against Leicester City under Potter on 11 March.

Since the appointment of Frank Lampard as interim manager until the end of the season, Chelsea have lost four games in a row in all competitions, with Real Madrid knocking them out of the Champions League on Tuesday.

However, Nagelsmann could still move up to the Premier League with the 35-year-old linked to Tottenham Hotspur as they look for a permanent replacement for Antonio Conte.

He has also been suggested as a potential replacement for Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, though the Italian recently revealed he has no intention of leaving Los Blancos at the end of the season despite ties to Brazil.
