Edin Terzić praised his team’s defensive tenacity after Borussia Dortmund equaled the club’s record by securing an eighth consecutive 2–1 Bundesliga win over title rivals RB Leipzig to finish 10th overall.
Dortmund started Friday’s game second behind Bayern Munich on goal difference alone, following an overbearing rise to form following the return of domestic football after the World Cup in Qatar.
Meanwhile, Leipzig, led by former Borussia Dortmund boss Marco Rose, were themselves four points behind first place and were aiming to get closer to the top two.
After Julian Brandt saw the hosts fail to score due to offside, captain Marco Reus scored from the penalty spot after being knocked down by Leipzig goalkeeper Janis Blaswich, giving Dortmund the lead and finishing second on the club’s goalscoring list during all this time.
Emre Can then saw a kick from the edge of the box somehow hit the target, giving his team a 2–0 team lead by half-time.
However, Leipzig improved after the break and halved the gap when Emil Forsberg slipped in front and scored a cross from David Raum into the net to secure the finish from the stands.

Rose’s men turned up the pressure and it took an incredible block from Niko Schlotterbeck to stop Timo Werner’s powerful shot on goal in the closing seconds as Dortmund watched the game to three points to take first place and Bayern didn’t play until Saturday when they meet Stuttgart.
Terzic was delighted to see his team pay off in a last desperate defense and told DAZN: “It was the absolute best game, we are very happy.
“In the first half we played very well, in the second half we defended passionately. They saved us over the line, it was not easy to score a goal for us today.”
Reus was relieved to take his 10th straight win in all competitions despite Borussia’s subdued performance in the second half, saying: “In the second half, we didn’t manage to keep the ball, find more solutions, it wasn’t like that.” good already.
“But we are very happy that we won the 10th competitive match in a row. In the end, I’d rather win than play well and lose. It’s all about hard work, we’ve shown that over the past few weeks and today.”
Rose was disappointed with the loss after a significant improvement in the second half, explaining: “The result is hard to accept, the second half obviously went to us.
Borussia were very efficient. It was a decent game on our part, I didn’t feel that we were clearly inferior. For more than 90 minutes, it’s hard to accept defeat in a game like this.”
