Ten Hag lauds benched Rashford´s ´right answer´ after scoring Wolves winner

Marcus Rashford found the “right answer” to being on the bench by scoring Manchester United’s winning goal against Wolves on Saturday, according to manager Erik ten Hag.

Despite being one of England’s top scorers in the World Cup and later scoring two goals for United on his return to club football, Rashford was named to the bench during a visit to Molineux due to “internal disciplinary » Violations.

But after a lackluster first-half performance, Ten Hag brought in Rashford at half-time, a decision that paid dividends as the forward scored the winning goal in the 76th minute to send Manchester United into the top four in the Premier League in 2023.

Ten Hag was delighted with the striker’s reaction to being expelled from the starting line-up, which the 25-year-old explained after the game by saying that he overslept and was late for a team meeting.

“It’s good after the decision,” Ten Hag told BT Sport. Rashford entered.

“He was bright, he was alive and he scored a goal to get a good reaction. Everyone has to stick to the rules, and if that’s how you react, that’s the right answer.”

United’s poor performance in the first 45 minutes left Ten Hag with no choice but to make a half-time substitution, as Fred also entered shortly after half-time.

Aside from the substitutions, Ten Hag believes his team’s improved mentality in the second period spurred them on to victory: “We weren’t that good in the first half.

“In my opinion, the second half was better. Fred won the second balls and tied the game when he entered the field.

“In the first half you analyze the game, but sometimes things don’t go as expected. The Wolves didn’t create as many chances as we did, but you have to be careful.

“I was unhappy at half-time and told them with such an attitude that they will not win this game and everyone should give 10 percent more.”
