Luciano Spalletti saw positive signs from his Napoli side despite a 1-0 loss to Lazio on Friday.
A stunning effort from Matias Vecino doomed the Serie A leaders to only a second league defeat of the season and a first at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Despite a defeat that ended an eight-match winning streak, Napoli maintain a 17-point lead at the top and Spalletti was pleased with his team’s desire.
“I expected this kind of attitude from biancocelesti, they are very compact and always move as a single unit,” he told DAZN.
“We made the worst choice, but I saw good attitude, proper application and desire, and these are fundamental things.”
Spalletti’s defeat came at the expense of a player he knows well, managing Vecino during the pair’s time at Inter, and he praised his former midfielder.
Lazio defended well, they were lucky with Victor Osimhen’s head, and we were naive about Vecino’s goal. Then the ball found that corner,” he added.
“But I congratulate Vecino, he is a great professional and a great football player. He betrayed me? I would not say that everyone should do their job without thinking about the relationship that was before.
