Southampton’s Last Two Games: A Source of Pride for Ruben Selles

Ruben Selles says Southampton still have a lot to be proud of as they spend the Premier League season as a relegated club.

Saints’ relegation to the league title was confirmed last week, meaning neither Sunday’s visit to Brighton nor next week’s final game against Liverpool mean anything.

But the Spaniard, who insists he wants to be the man to try to bring the Saints back into the top flight, says his team still needs to be professional.

“It doesn’t matter what sport you play, first of all you play for yourself, train for yourself and keep fit, and you put yourself in a team, in a group of players who want to do something.” – Selles. said.

“The first meeting (after departure) was very simple. This is nothing new, but the fact that we can’t get anything off the table makes these things a little more important than ever because you have to play for yourself.

“If you think about it and playing for the club, the fans will come and support us on Sunday and against Liverpool.

The Amex ride represents a tough ride for the Saints, whose hosts are vying for the European qualification.

They have done well since appointing Roberto De Zerbi earlier this season and Selles says his Italian counterpart is breaking the mold.

“Brighton are having a really good season, first with Graham Potter and now with De Zerby, they play some attractive football and you can see what they do in every game they play,” he said.

“They are doing very well in the Premier League and if you do that it’s because something has been building up for a long time. I have respect for Roberto because he is a great coach and it shows every time his team plays.

“I have known Roberto since the days of Sassuolo, so I know what he is capable of, and from Shakhtar Donetsk. He played amazing football, so I’m not surprised that he can use his style and play in the Premier League.

“The football he plays is really good, it’s a bit different, usually big teams play with this model, but Roberto showed that you can do it in a different environment.”
