Soccer News: Thiago and Pedri left the Spanish national team because Real Madrid players were again neglected

Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has been barred from the Spanish side for the September hat-trick.

Thiago made four substitute appearances for Spain in the run-up to the semi-finals of the European Championships finals, but the 30-year-old – who has just nine minutes of Premier League action behind him this season – was overlooked for selection.

Pedri is another notable absentee from Luis Enrique’s 24-man squad, although that was expected as the Barcelona midfielder was rested after his participation in Euro 2020 and the Tokyo Olympics.

Dani Olmo, Mikel Oyarzabal and Pau Torres, three other members of the Spanish Olympic contingent, will also have a break during the first international stop of the season.

Fabian Ruiz and Diego Llorente, respectively of Napoli and Leeds United, are the others who have left the Spanish team for the World Cup qualifiers against Sweden, Georgia and Kosovo in the next fortnight.

As at Euro 2020, Luis Enrique has decided not to call up any Real Madrid players, which means no place on the team for Dani Carvajal, Marco Asensio and Nacho Fernandez.

Abel Ruiz, Brais Mendez, Pablo Fornals, Mikel Merino and Carlos Soler have all been called up, while Inigo Martinez and Raul Albiol are also included.

La Roja won two and drew one of the first three qualifiers and leads the top of Group B for the next trio of matches.

    The complete squad of Spain:

David de Gea, Robert Sanchez; Unai Simon; Aymeric Laporte, Cesar Azpilicueta, Eric Garcia, Inigo Martinez, Jordi Alba, Jose Gaya, Raul Albiol; Brais Mendez, Carlos Soler, Koke, Marcos Llorente, Mikel Merino, Pablo Sarabia, Rodri, Sergio Busquets; Abel Ruiz, Adama Traore, Alvaro Morata, Ferran Torres, Gerard Moreno, Pablo Fornals
