Niklas Fullkrug came off the bench to save Qatar’s first World Cup point for Germany when they beat Spain to a 1-1 draw at Al Bayt Stadium.
Substitute Spaniard Alvaro Morata opened the scoring in the second half of the Group E heavyweight bout in Doha on Sunday.
However, Fullkrug helped Germany avoid consecutive defeats after they were stunned by Japan in their first match by equalizing with seven minutes of regulation time to play.
The draw leaves Spain in first place ahead of the last group game against Japan and Germany needs to beat Costa Rica and hope La Roja does them a favor to have a chance of qualifying.
