Soccer News: Serbia 2-3 Switzerland: Shaqiri silences ridicule

Swiss playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri proved once again that the Serbian nemesis was helping knock Dragan Stojkovic’s side out of the World Cup on a stormy evening at the 974 Stadium.

Shaqiri scored a last-minute goal against Serbia in the 2018 tournament in Russia and celebrated by folding his arms in the shape of an eagle to show his support for Kosovo, his country of birth, and the former Serbian province that declared independence in 2008. This independence is not recognized by Serbia.

A Chicago firefighter was booed and ridiculed, while at least one Serbian fan was kicked out for anti-Kosovo chants.

Shaqiri was the last to laugh at the first goal when Switzerland, who entered the game knowing a draw would likely be enough, emerged from Group G with a dramatic 3-2 win alongside Brazil despite their surprise loss to Cameroon with score 1:0.
