Soccer News: ´Real Madrid are clearly favorites for the LaLiga title´ – Ancelotti confident after victory in El Derbi

Carlo Ancelotti believes Real Madrid are ‘clear favorites’ for the La Liga title following El Derbi’s convincing 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

La Liga leaders Madrid gained 13 points over the fourth-placed Atleti, thanks to goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio who extended their unbeaten run on city rivals to 11 games.

It was Real’s seventh consecutive top flight victory and brought Real seven points clear of Sevilla, even though Unai Emery’s side have one game fewer.

Asked about his impact on his team’s good running, Ancelotti said at the press conference: “I don’t think it’s the Ancelotti effect; I have a team that leaves me calm for what they do on the pitch.

“They manage the game very well and have a defensive commitment. It’s a team, not just high-quality players, and that’s the difference.

“We are clearly the favorites [for the title] because we did very well, better than others, but we are focused on the next matches because a mental slowdown can cost us dearly. This is the only way to get close to victory.

“I really like the defensive aspect of the team; that’s what we’ve improved the most since the start of the season.

“We are more solid. Although the pressure is not too high, with a lower wall we use the attackers for counter attacks ”.

Ancelotti was full of praise for Luka Modric after another supreme display from the veteran midfielder.

The Croatian international made three joint interceptions and completed 90.1% of his passes, with his all-round performance purring his boss.

“I congratulated him on the match because it was incredible,” added Ancelotti.

“I don’t know what I said, but it was spectacular with and without the ball. It was extraordinary.

“He played a spectacular game, with personality and character. He is an extraordinary player ».

Both of Real’s goals were created by Vinicius Junior, with the Brazilian international becoming the first player to provide two assists in a La Liga clash between Madrid and Atleti in the 21st century.

“He is improving”, Ancelotti explained. “I don’t talk to him much because I don’t have much to tell him; it just needs to make it effective.

“I tell him he doesn’t have to dribble to do it. Something needs to be done to help the team and he made two assists that helped us win the game. “
