Soccer News: Nagelsmann ignores provocations from Bayern fans

Julian Nagelsmann shrugged off the insults he received from a small section of Bayern Munich fans during a friendly against Ajax.

In his first match at the Allianz Arena, a slew of 8,500 fans taunted Nagelsmann about his ties to historical rivals Bayern Munich 1860.

The 34-year-old, who was made Bayern’s head coach in April having been a fan of the club as a boy, played for the youth teams of 1860 and later became involved in their youth coaching.

“Not everyone has to applaud that I was with city rivals,” he said at a press conference following Bayern’s 2-2 draw with Ajax.

“I know rivalries in the city and in football, but I don’t like rivalries very much.

“I am for tolerance. You can’t make everyone happy in life. “

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Tanguy Nianzou scored for Bayern in the draw.

Nagelsmann acknowledged that Bayern should be innovative in the transfer market rather than spending a lot of money on players before the Bundesliga kicks off next month.

“We have differences with other countries,” he added.

“It is true that other clubs have more money available for transfers. With or without the pandemic, we are not ready to pay such taxes.

“We will try to remain competitive with creative solutions”.
