Julian Nagelsmann is confident that Leon Goretzka can be persuaded to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich and has suggested that fellow midfielder Corentin Tolisso still has a future in the club.

Goretzka has less than a year to execute his existing contract with the German champions and has been touted as a possible target for Manchester United and Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old scored five goals and provided the same number of assists in 24 Bundesliga games last season, also playing a direct role in four Champions League goals.

Newly appointed coach Nagelsmann has already pointed out that he is keen to keep Goretzka at the Allianz Arena, but contractual negotiations with the midfielder are out of his hands.

“I’m not involved enough to have my say every day. I stay out of these problems, “Nagelsmann said.” Of course I told him about my plans for him.

“I told him I’d be happy if it extended and I’m confident too. There are several issues involved when it comes to discussing a contract extension.

“I will continue to focus on the sporting side of things and show him that he can be one of the most dangerous midfielders in Europe. It has the potential to improve further. “

Goretzka is not alone in being linked to a transfer from Bavaria, with French international midfielder Tolisso looking for a fresh start.

But Nagelsmann has left the door open for Tolisso, who will become a free agent next year, to prove himself this season after a disappointing 2020-21 season.

“He is currently in solitary confinement in France. I can’t wait for him to come back and train with the team, “said Nagelsmann.

“His contractual situation is known to all. I assume that when he is healthy again, he will be part of this team. “

Nagelsmann spoke of Bayern’s 3-0 friendly defeat to Napoli, three defeats and one draw in his first four games on the bench.

He has had to do without a number of players who have been away to the national team, even though the great champions Robert Lewandowski, Serge Gnabry and Goretzka returned on Saturday.

The former RB Leipzig manager is not worried about the results so far, however, and has hinted that Bayern could still strengthen before the transfer window closes.

“I said earlier that I am taking over a well-functioning team,” added Nagelsmann. “But I haven’t had the full team yet.

“On Monday we will be full when the others return, then it’s about finding the rhythm in training”

“I’m not worried about these scores. I think today’s first half was good. We were in control and played well, but we didn’t manage to create many chances in the last third.

“The goals we conceded were annoying, but they can’t really be a reference because we have made a lot of changes

“Our job as a company is to always observe the market. We have a good squad, but we can always improve it. Every coach in the world wants the best possible team. “

Kingsley Coman reported a bruised rib in the defeat to Napoli, but Nagelsmann confirmed in his post-match press conference that he doesn’t expect the Frenchman to stay out for long.
