Soccer News: Lloris warns France out of his mind: the euphoria of the World Cup is over

Hugo Lloris told France to put the “euphoria” of World Cup triumph behind them after another disappointing performance against Ukraine.

On Saturday, Bleus drew 1-1 in Kiev in the last qualifying match for Qatar 2022, meaning they have now drawn five straight games for the first time in their history.

Anthony Martial’s first international goal in five years canceled out Mykola Shaparenko’s excellent opening goal but, despite 61.5% possession, Didier Deschamps’s men failed to create enough meaningful chances to find a winner.

Substitute Moussa Diaby hit the post, but only five of France’s 16 shots went on goal, as they made five straight games in Kiev without a win.

Lloris thinks his team should put 2018 triumph in the past if they want to get their qualifying campaign for next year’s finals.

“There was a lack of commitment, of aggression. The 2018 World Cup euphoria is over, “he told M6.

“We feel a little lack of confidence. There is a lot of development in terms of players too, but it’s up to everyone to increase their level of performance.

“We have to stay positive and make sure that the start of the match against Finland is a success.”

Deschamps felt there had been an improvement in France’s performance in the second half, although he was frustrated by their inability to create opportunities.

“It was much better in the second half after the first scene where we could have opened the scoring and, in the next minute, we were behind,” he said.

“The sequence of the matches is difficult, but it is not an excuse. Of the 11 who started, many had never played together.

“You can always do better against a very tight opponent. You need a little more precision and movement. We had the ball but we need to be able to create a few more opportunities. “
