Soccer News: Leeds v Arsenal game suspended due to technical issues following power outage

Sunday’s Premier League game between Leeds United and hosts Arsenal was temporarily suspended shortly after kick-off due to technical issues following a power outage at Elland Road.

The game had only been going on for a couple of minutes when referee Chris Kavanagh stopped it, having lost contact with VAR and was also unable to use goal line technology.

After a long stay on the field in an attempt to warm up, the referee Kavanagh ordered both groups of players to return to the dressing rooms.

Leeds tweeted: “The game has been temporarily suspended after a power outage caused problems with the referee’s communication systems.”

Play resumed in Yorkshire about 30 minutes later, with Arsenal looking to secure a seventh straight win in all competitions to gain a four-point lead ahead of runners-up Manchester City’s trip to Liverpool later that day.
