Soccer News: Jimenez reveals that doctors said it was a miracle that he survived

Wolf striker Raul Jimenez revealed that doctors told him it is a miracle that he survived the fractured skull immediately after a clash of heads in November.

Jimenez made his return to the Premier League in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Leicester City after an eight-month hiatus following a sickening accidental collision with Arsenal’s David Luiz.

During a long delay in the field, the Mexican was put on a stretcher and given oxygen before being taken to the hospital for emergency surgery.

At first there were fears that the 30-year-old might never play again, but he revealed that the concerns were greater than when he addressed the media on Tuesday.

“With the skull fracture, the bone broke and there was some bleeding inside the brain,” Jimenez said. “It was pushing my brain inward and that’s why the surgery had to be quick.

“It was really great work from the doctors. The skull fracture took a little longer to heal than we expected, but it’s a miracle to be here with you. “

He added: “From the first moment they told me what happened and the risks. They told me it was like a miracle to be there. Because they are doctors, they have to tell you the truth and you have to take it. Sometimes that’s not what you want to hear, but it’s their job. “

The Mexican has no recollection of the incident and spent 10 days in the hospital following the emergency surgery.

Jimenez charted the long way back to competitive football, having resumed training with teammates in May, insisting that he always felt he could return.

“I always thought it was maybe like an ankle injury or a knee injury and that after my recovery, I will go back to doing what I love to do,” said the former Benfica and Atletico Madrid forward.

“I never thought about ending my career or quitting playing. There was a possibility, but I was always confident that I would come back ”.

Jimenez has caused a sensation for the Wolves since their promotion to the Premier League, scoring 30 goals in the top flight in his first two full seasons at the club.

He had scored four goals in 2020-21 prior to his Emirates Stadium injury, with the absence of Jimenez giving Wolves a major blow last season.
