Sheffield Wednesday Penalized for Darren Moore’s Offensive Racial Language

Sheffield Wednesday have issued an immediate ban on a man who directed racist slurs at manager Darren Moore on social media following Friday’s game against Peterborough.

The man behind the abusive account has been banned from attending club matches and events as they said on Wednesday that they stand “shoulder to shoulder” with Moore and will offer him their full support.

The club is working with the police on the message that was sent after their defeat in the League One play-off semi-final.

The statement reads: “Sheffield Wednesday is appalled by the disgusting racist message directed at Darren Moore posted on social media following our game against Peterborough United on Friday night.

“We distance ourselves completely from such heinous behavior and have taken appropriate steps to immediately ban this individual from all SWFC matches and activities.

“Sheffield Wednesday stands shoulder to shoulder with Darren, the football family and society at large in denouncing all forms of discrimination.

“The club will offer its full support to Darren and we are working with the authorities to ensure that this man faces the full force of the law as a result of such a cowardly and dastardly act.”

Moore was named boss on a Wednesday in March 2021 while they were in the Championship but was unable to prevent their relegation at the end of that season.

His team will play Chic in the second leg at Hillsborough on Thursday in an attempt to close a 4-0 gap as they are in contention to complete their two-year stay in the Third Division.
