Roma manager Jose Mourinho was sent off due to a seething mood in the 5-2 friendly pre-season defeat to Real Betis on Saturday.
The former Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United manager took the field and approached the referee to protest a dubious Betis goal.
The incident occurred with the 2-2 match with Alex Moreno awkwardly scoring for Betis who seemed to use his arm, but the referee did not cancel the goal causing Mourinho’s strong reaction despite the relative irrelevance of the friendly .
Mourinho was sent off for his actions alongside Lorenzo Pellegrini before Roma had two other players and two other assistants sent off and conceded two more goals to lose 5-2.
The Portuguese took over from Roma in the off-season, while the Giallorossi try to improve last season’s seventh place in Serie A.
On Sunday 22 August Roma will start the 2021-22 Serie A championship against Fiorentina.
The hosts get the lead back with Alex Moreno – although the players are not happy with the decision to award him, as there appeared to be a hand ball as he packed him over the lines.
Pellegrini is then sent off for a double yellow card.
