Serie-A News: Lazio president Lotito insists Milinkovic-Savic is ‘not for sale’ due to Juventus ties

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has said Sergei Milinkovic-Savic is “not for sale” amid growing ties with Serie A rivals Juventus.

The midfielder will play in Qatar in the World Cup with Serbia this month, though reports from Italy suggest Milinkovic-Savic could hit the road shortly after the January transfer window hits.

Manchester United were previously linked with the 27-year-old, while Massimiliano Allegri’s side now appear to be in the lead in signing the Serbian.

But Lotito tried to end the speculation on Saturday by telling Italian newspaper Il Messaggero that the future of the Lazio star was non-negotiable.

“Everyone says he goes here, he goes there, but he is not for sale, we know what he is worth for me and for Lazio,” said Lotito.

“We are negotiating a contract extension.”

Milinkovic-Savic has again impressed in Serie A this year, with no top-flight Italian player having more than 12 assists in 2022 before the World Cup break.

Only six midfielders have scored more goals in Europe’s top five leagues this season than Milinkovic Savic (12), although midfielder Luis Alberto has failed to impress Lazio.

Former Liverpool and Sevilla player Luis Alberto has fallen out of the pecking order under Maurizio Sarri, though Lotito says he won’t let the 30-year-old go on loan in the next transfer window.

“If he wants to leave bring the team with the money because I’m really not thinking about loaning him out in January,” he added. “And I haven’t received any requests from Atlético. [Madrid].

“At the moment the situation has not changed compared to the summer when Sevilla might have been interested.

“I will not play any games. Luis Alberto is a talented player, an added value for Lazio and a compromise has yet to be found.

“He has to accept the choice of the manager and Sarri can be more understanding because every player has a different character. They cannot have the same mental strength as Pedro.
