Serie-A News: Inter’s improvement shows honest talk helped – Martinez

Lautaro Martinez believes Sunday’s 2-0 win over Salernitana proved that Inter have matured as a result of the candid conversations that took place in the dressing room during their difficult run.

Their victory at the San Siro gave the Nerazzurri a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions, although that streak followed a five-of-10 defeat streak at the start of the season.

Before Sunday’s game, Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni told Sky Italia that their recent improvement came after focused negotiations between the players behind the scenes.

Bastogne indicated that Inter had come to realize that too many players were complaining about others and that realization had helped change attitudes.

Although Martinez, who scored the first goal on Sunday, did not go into details, he believes that Inter’s problems are behind them.

“What we say in the dressing room stays there,” he told Sky Italia. “After the defeats, we talked a lot, started working, and it shows on the field.

“This victory means that we have grown and matured after the home match against Barcelona.

“We are doing well, we must continue in the same spirit.”

Asked if Inter were back, he added: “We are on the right track, we have moved on.”

Inter’s troubles at the start of the season have seen head coach Simone Inzaghi come under pressure, although he insists he never worried much, knowing full well that such scrutiny is to be expected in his job.

He said: “It’s normal that something went wrong, we considered 84 points last year a loss to Milan.

“We are starting from three wins and a draw – now I am looking at the field. The pressure is there and always will be – I know what I’m doing.

“We controlled this match from start to finish. We must continue like this, things are going well and they must get better.”
