Serie-A News: Del Piero ready to help Juventus as Italian giants seek new chairman and board of directors

Alessandro Del Piero is ready to help Juventus as the Serie A giants begin their search for a chairman to replace Andrea Agnelli and a new board of directors.

Juventus announced after an emergency meeting on Monday that Agnelli, vice-president Pavel Nedved and managing director Maurizio Arrivabene have left their positions.

It comes amid an investigation into alleged tax fraud, which Juventus have denied, and the club’s record loss of €254.3 million over 2021-22.

Exor, who owns a controlling stake in Juventus, said on Tuesday that Gianluca Ferrero could replace Agnelli as president.

Any decision on who will replace Agnelli, Nedved and Arrivabene is expected to be made at the January 18 shareholder meeting.

In yet another difficult off-field period for the Turin team, club legend Del Piero has made it clear that he is ready to help Juventus in any way he can, just as he did as a player.

“You’re asking a question to someone like me who spent almost 20 years there,” Del Piero, who spent nine years at the Bianconeri, told beIN SPORTS.

“I flew out with the team and decided to stay, so the relationship with me and the team, with the owners, with the fans, is quite deep, very deep.

“We have gone through everything to reach the top of the world and the lowest point in the history of the club. This great journey has brought me here with you.

“This is where every news about Juventus makes me emotional and I’m going to stand and watch what happens.

“I was with them this summer on tour in LA where I live and also in Lisbon. I am friends with Pavel and with everyone. I’m sad to see this situation.”

Del Piero added: “I don’t know the plan; nobody called me. I don’t know what will happen, but I know very well everything that happened. I still have a house in the city…”

Juventus were stripped of their titles and relegated to Serie B in 2006-07 following the Calciopoli scandal, but Del Piero expects no such punishment this time around.

“This is not about the team; it won’t affect the team in terms of relegation or other things,” he said.

“It will affect the people because the accusations against the people continue, not only the president, but also other members of the board. It will affect them if there is evidence.”
