Serie-A News: Allegri urges patience as Pogba and Chiesa return to Juventus

Massimiliano Allegri has ruled Paul Pogba out of Juventus’ plans for Friday’s game against Empoli, saying it would be “pure madness” to rush the midfielder’s recovery.

Juventus have been unable to field Pogba or Federico Chiesa this season, with the French midfielder undergoing knee surgery last month and the Italian striker Chiesa suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January.

Pogba was initially skeptical about the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, although France manager Didier Deschamps was optimistic about his recovery earlier this week.

Speaking at the Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday, Deschamps said: “His program is going well. The main thing is that he recovered, I think he will recover, and that’s good.”

Despite both Pogba and Chiesa having been spotted training for the team recently, head coach Allegri said Juventus should treat their return with caution.

“Let’s look at the real thing, the reality today is that Chiesa and Pogba don’t have them,” Allegri said at Thursday’s pre-match press conference.

“Chiesa spent two training sessions with the team, Pogba trained temporarily, but partially with the team. Do not write all this there, you have a fantasy.

“The players didn’t even train with the team [and you] They say they are in stock in two days. Fantasy is power, and it is very beautiful. Tomorrow they won’t be.

“I would also like everyone to be available, especially to make changes. With who we have, tomorrow we will have a great match and we will prepare well for Benfica.

“Chiesa has already made progress. There will be a friendly on Saturday morning for Federico to see how he moves across the field.

“Paul did some work with the team, but we’re on Thursday and Tuesday is four days away. Damaging his work is pure insanity.”

After the Empoli clash, Juventus will have only three days to recover before the Champions League decider against Benfica, but Allegri will not depend on striker Dusan Vlahovic resting on Friday.

“Dusan, regardless of the goal, played one of the best games on a technical level. [against Torino last week]Allegri said.

“[Moise] Keane did well too, I’m happy with Moise because he’s growing, physically better and, above all, making himself available to the team.

“To get results, everyone needs to be available, and there seem to be good signs of that. Tomorrow will not be easy; among other things, they beat us last year.”

Vlahovic scored three goals in three Serie A matches against Empoli, including his first league brace for Juventus in February. The Serb has also scored five times in five league home games this season.
