Sandro Tonali, who left Milan to join Newcastle this summer, played 72 minutes against his former club in the opening match of the Champions League campaign on Tuesday and, after speaking to Italian outlet Mediaset, refused to rule out a return to action for Newcastle. “Rossoneri” again in the future.
The 23-year-old midfielder, who helped Milan win the Scudetto in 2021/22, also confessed his love for the Italian giants.
It’s unlikely that players return to one of their former clubs after stints elsewhere, either successful or unsuccessful, so Tonali certainly wouldn’t be the first to do so if it ever happened, but for now, he’s under contract with Newcastle are with him until 2028, and unless something goes wrong at St James’ Park before then, it’s hard to imagine the Magpies letting him leave.
Sandro Tonali: “Will you return to Milan one day?” I don’t know… I would pay to know my future. Maybe yes maybe no. Football is strange,” says Mediaset 🔴⚫️🇮🇹
