AC Milan thrashed Sampdoria by five, one on Saturday on matchday 36 of the Italian league, days after the Rossoneri said goodbye to the Champions League at the hands of rivals Inter.

The Milan quintet scored Rafael Leão in the 9th minute, Olivier Giroud “three goals” in the 23rd, 29th minutes from penalties and 68 and Ibrahim Diaz (63).

Fabio Quagliarella scored Sampdoria’s only goal in the 20th minute.

With this win, Milan lifted their tally to 64 in fifth place, one point clear of fourth-placed Lazio, the last Champions League qualifying position for the following season.

On the other hand, Sampdoria’s balance sheet was frozen at 18 points in last place and it was confirmed a few rounds ago that they had been relegated.

Milan’s huge win came after they were knocked out of the Champions League semi-final at the hands of Inter last Tuesday after losing 3-0 on aggregate.
