The Russian national team scored eight unanswered goals against their Cuban guest in a friendly football match that took place between them on Monday evening in the city of Volgograd in front of more than 40 thousand spectators.
The hosts took the lead thanks to a first-half hat-trick, signed by each player Ivan Oblyakov, Alexander Golovin and Anton Miranchuk in the 22nd, 30th and 34th minutes respectively.
The Russian national team added five more goals in the second half from players Alexander Silyanov, Alexander Sobolev, Danil Protsev, Nikita Krivtsov and Andrei Mostovoy in the 55th, 66th, 68th, 74th and 78th minutes, respectively.
Russian Sergei Benyaev missed a penalty in the 85th minute of the match, missing the opportunity to score against Cuba for the ninth time and setting a new record.
For the first time in its history, the Russian team met with its Cuban counterpart, who ranks 169th in the world team rankings.
It is noteworthy that the Soviet Union team defeated its Cuban counterpart by the same score (8-0) in a match that brought them together 43 years ago, during the Summer Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980.
This is considered to be the third biggest defeat of the Cuban team in its history, after the defeat to Sweden (0–8) in the final of the 1938 FIFA World Cup.
