Ronaldo Refuses to Vote for Messi in The Best Award

The British newspaper “The Sun” reported that Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo did not vote in the “Best Player” category, which witnessed the coronation of Argentine star Lionel Messi with the “Best Player of 2022” award.

And a British newspaper said: “Ronaldo did not vote for ‘Best Award’ even though there was no announcement that he would be stripped of the Portugal captaincy.”

She added: “Defender Bibi was the one who voted for the captain of Portugal, chose Kylian Mbappe in first place and placed Luka Modric and Karim Benzema in second and third respectively.”

Ronaldo said goodbye to the last World Cup competitions in Qatar 2022 in the quarter-finals, which led to the ouster of coach Fernando Santos and the appointment of Roberto Martinez in his place.

Martinez has previously hinted at Ronaldo’s presence in his future plans for Portugal.

It seems that the crises in the Portugal national team and the lack of certainty of Cristiano Ronaldo’s position on whether to continue to play internationally or not caused the Portuguese captain and the current winner to withdraw their vote.

Ronaldo also always prefers to stay away from awards he is not a part of, which is what happened with the Ballon d’Or, which he also boycotted this year and decided by Karim Benzema.

The FIFA Best of the Year award was launched in 2016 after being combined with the Ballon d’Or award given by the famous France Football magazine.

As this partnership fell apart, FIFA independently established its own award, which is an award for the best, or what is known in the media as “The Best”.

It is noteworthy that Messi won the 2022 FIFA “Best” award, for the second time in its history, after the first in 2019, equaling the number of Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski duo.
