Riot Erupts in Atletico Madrid due to Demolition of Rayo Vallecano

Atlético Madrid scored four goals in 13 minutes of the second half in a 7-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano to finish second in the La Liga table.

At 36 minutes Atlético were 3-0 up and goals from Antoine Griezmann, Memphis Depay and Nahuel Molina effectively ended the game against Rayo, who had previously won their first two games of the season.

Alvaro Morata scored twice as Diego Simeone’s team put the hosts to the sword in the final 20 minutes, and Angel Correa and Marcos Llorente also shot on goal, two points behind Atlético Madrid at the top.

Elsewhere, Getafe secured a 1-0 home win for Getafe over Alaves with an 84th-minute penalty by Borja Mayoral.

Denzel Dumfries and Lautaro Martinez scored first-half goals as Inter Milan beat Cagliari 2-0 to maintain their 100 per cent start to the Serie A season and finish third in the table.

Last season’s Champions League runners-up took the lead in the 21st minute when Markus Thuram passed the ball to Dumfries, who deftly sent the ball over the net and into the far corner.

Inter’s advantage was doubled when Martinez broke inside and landed a hard shot wide of the goalkeeper, sending Claudio Ranieri’s Cagliari to their first defeat of the season.

Salernitana needed a Boulay Dia goal in the 72nd minute to win back a point at home to Udinese and remain undefeated after two games.

Lazar Samardzic had previously put the visitors ahead as they aimed for their first win of the campaign before the hosts hit back to take a point.
