A Saudi Arabian Football Association official told AFP that France’s Herve Renard has resigned as manager of the Saudi Arabian national team to take over coaching for his country’s women’s team.
Reports indicated that Hervé Renard sent the French Football Association his permission to train his country’s women’s national team and informed the Football Association officials of this.
An official, who asked not to be named, confirmed this today, Tuesday: “Renard has submitted his resignation and the Saudi Arabian Football Association has accepted it. The match against Bolivia was his last match.”
He added: “We tried to talk him out of this decision, but he was determined to return to his country and coach his country’s national team. We can’t stop him from fulfilling his dream.”
It is noteworthy that the French women’s team will take part in the Women’s World Cup between July and August next year in Australia and New Zealand.
The official pointed out that the Saudi federation was “pleased with Renard’s period in the leadership of Al Akhdar, who saw his leadership of Saudi Arabia achieve a historic victory over Argentina in their group’s opening match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. on the way to Albicheletsi to win the world title.
Hervé Renard, 54, took charge of the Saudi national team in 2019 and led them to the 2022 World Cup after leading the Asian group.
Last May, the Saudi Federation announced the extension of the contract of Renard, the former manager of the national team of Morocco and the Ivory Coast, with the Ivory Coast until 2027.
Another federation source indicated that “there had been talks between the French federation and Renard for some time, which the Saudi federation was aware of”, and added that “everyone wanted him to stay”.
The two sources did not specify whether the French coach would pay the penalty clause in his contract or not, but Saudi newspapers indicated he would.
