RB Leipzig manager ends dispute over Guardiol’s future

Leipzig’s German manager Marco Rose closed the door on the departure of Croatian defender Josko Guardiola after scoring the equalizing goal for his side against Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League final.

Guardiol equalized Manchester City 1-1 with a header yesterday, Wednesday, and reduced the danger of City’s Norwegian giant striker Erling Haaland on a night in which the latter failed to score.

And Guardiol, in his second year at Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb, became a target for many European clubs due to the impressive level he showed, whether with his German team or in his country’s jersey at the World Cup in Qatar in Last year.

German media quoted Guardiol as saying, “Maybe I’ll leave after (my colleague) Christopher (Nkunku)”, referring to reports that Nkunku had reached an agreement with Chelsea.

Rose put an end to speculation about Guardiol’s future, saying: “The headlines don’t seem to bother him.”

He added: “He is a Leipzig player and I think he will stay at Leipzig.”

And he added: “During his (Guardiol’s) conversation about Christopher, he smiled, but, of course, in the newspapers you will not see a smile.”

He concluded: “Guardiol said he likes it here and feels comfortable. As a manager, you want to work with the best players.”
