Marcus Rashford stressed the importance of Manchester United’s Europa League victory over Real Betis after being humiliated against Liverpool.

United’s enduring squad bounced back from Sunday’s defeat at Anfield with a 4-1 win at Old Trafford to take command in the round of 16.

Rashford opened the scoring with his 26th goal of an outstanding season when Anthony, Bruno Fernandes and Wout Weghorst scored in the second half after Ayoze Pérez equalized for the visitors.

While the win won’t take away the pain of Merseyside, it did get United back on track and Rashford says there’s more to come.

“It’s always important to win the next match, that’s the only way for us to recover and try to keep the momentum we had before this game,” he told BT Sport.

“So I’m happy that we managed to win the game and that helped us win the draw.

“We always try to start fast, a goal always helps with that. I think they defended the box quite well in the first half, in the second it opened a little more as we expected at 1-1, so we are happy to win the game and start the draw in the right way.

“This is a step back in the right direction. We have to build on that now to get back on track, we can’t put too much emphasis on what’s already gone, we can’t change that, but we have to look ahead now.”
