Public Auction: Exclusive Collection of Messi Shirts Featured in World Cup 2022 Qatar

Auction house Sotheby’s has announced that a group of six jerseys worn by Argentine star Lionel Messi during the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be sold at auction with an estimated value of millions of dollars.

Lionel Messi, who led his country to victory at the World Cup in Qatar in 2022, wore these shirts in the group stage against Saudi Arabia and Mexico, as well as in subsequent matches against Australia, the Netherlands, Croatia and the final match against France.

Sotheby’s said that if the price of the jerseys does exceed $10 million, it could make the auction the most valuable collection of sports memorabilia ever sold at public auction, as the most expensive single shirt sold at auction was one worn by the legend football. Michael Jordan’s basket during the 1998 American League Finals with the Chicago Bulls sold for $10.1 million at the time.

Part of the funds will be donated to an initiative project of the Barcelona Children’s Hospital to help children with rare diseases.

The jerseys will be available for free public viewing once they are auctioned from November 30 to December 14, 2023.
