Mesut Ozil has announced that he is retiring from professional football at the age of 34.
Throughout his career since 2005, he has played for Schalke, Werder Bremen, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Fenerbahce and Istanbul Basaksehir. He also represented Germany on the international stage, winning the World Cup in the process.
His other honors include four wins in the DFB-Pokal, La Liga, Copa del Rey and the FA Cup.
Ozil has certainly suffered a bit over the past few years when it comes to his overall reputation. Despite being one of the best players in the world in his prime, everything has changed since he left the Gunners.
At the same time, it is quite difficult to deny what an impact he had at the peak of his career. At one time, he could terrorize almost any defense on the planet.
Good luck in retirement, Mesut.
