Premier League News: Who will reportedly be on Manchester United’s midfield wishlist this summer?

Already announcing the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane in what were successful moves this summer, many around Old Trafford believe Manchester United are not done there.

While it might appear that longtime goal Declan Rice will remain at West Ham ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, it’s no secret that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for reinforcements in midfield.

By backing their Norweigan boss by handing him a new contract until 2024 last month, last season’s Europa League finalists have been linked to a string of European stars.

It is still unclear whether Paul Pogba will extend his stay with the former Premier League champions, we took a look at three midfielders who have been linked to the move to Old Trafford this summer.

Saul Niguez

While Saul Niguez may have spent most of this summer’s transfer window being linked to a potential transfer to Liverpool, reports on Wednesday suggested Manchester United have moved into pole position ahead of their bitter rivals.

With it widely speculated that Atletico Madrid could have to do with some financial issues in the Spanish capital, trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano hinted that the 26-year-old may be on his way to the Premier League this summer.

Once again a stunning performer of Diego Simeone’s squad that won the La Liga title last season, the Italian transfer guru reported that the Red Devils have already reached out to Saul’s reps for a potential move in the coming weeks.

Believing that a £ 38m offer in the region could be enough to induce Atletico to part ways with his midfield star, Simeone did not close the door on the prospect of the 19-capped Spanish international leaving Wanda Metropolitano before the window close.

Eduardo Camavinga

Enjoying what was a real breakthrough campaign with Rennes’ Ligue 1 side last season, there is no doubt that Eduardo Camavinga finds himself regarded as one of the most important talents in European midfield.

Still just 18 years old and managing to make 35 international caps last season, the youngster has already seen his performances in France earn three first-team appearances with Didier Deschamps’ World Cup-winning team.

However, while it may have been widely reported that Solskjaer is thrilled to strike a deal for the French starlet, United certainly faces tough competition from their fellow European heavyweights.

While Sky Sports may have hinted last month that the Premier League giants held informal talks with Camavinga reps, it seems the Rennes ace has his sights set on a move to Spain.

With the impression that Real Madrid are leading the chase, Camavinga can sign a pre-contract deal with a foreign club in January, something Rennes are desperately trying to avoid.

Ruben Neves

While Ruben Neves may have announced earlier this week that he is “fully focused” on the upcoming season with Wolves, the former Porto star has been continually linked to a departure from Molineux this summer.

Rumored to have been on Arsenal’s radar earlier in the window, it has since been suggested that the 24-year-old is a major contender in Solskjaer’s quest to add reinforcements to midfield ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Moving on to the side of Mikel Arteta with the bookmakers and now at the price of 2/1 with Betfair to collect Neves’ signature, reporter Duncan Castles told al Podcast Transfer window last month the wolves valued their man 50 million pounds.

International teammate and close friend of United ace Bruno Fernandes, Neves has also received a lot of praise from a former Reds icon. Compared to Paul Scholes from former right-back Paul Parker last week, it is believed that a potential deal for the 22-cap international would be the simplest.
