Premier League News: Robertson confirms damage to ankle ligaments as Liverpool defender vows to “graft every day”

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson confirmed he sustained ligament damage in his ankle in the 1-1 pre-season friendly draw with Athletic Bilbao.

The Scottish international limped out after attempting to block a cross and was replaced at half-time by Owen Beck.

Manager Jurgen Klopp said further tests are needed to determine the level of damage, questioning Robertson’s readiness for Liverpool’s Premier League season opener away to Norwich City on August 14.

Ahead of Monday’s friendly with Osasuna, the Reds’ last warm-up match before the 2021-22 season, Robertson said via Twitter that he expected to be sidelined for some time.

“Thank you all for the kind messages and support,” he wrote. “The scan does not suggest anything serious, but there is damage to the ligaments that will need to be repaired.

“I will be engaging every day so that I can help the team again sooner rather than later. Good luck to the kids who play tonight ”.
